Armed with greater understanding the context of God’s command to exterminate the Canaanites, and knowing the changes made under the New Covenant, we see that Canaan in Joshua’s day was a type and shadow of the world as a whole. That is why God seemed to give Abraham the promise of this land inheritance, while the greater promise was actually a “better country” (Hebrews 11:16) and a “city which has foundations, whose architect and builder is God” (Hebrews 11:10).
In other words, the land of Canaan and Jerusalem were early models—prophetic types—of the real inheritance that God intended for us.
For this reason, if we are to understand what it means to “inherit the earth” (Matthew 5:5) and to rule it by the mind of Christ, it is imperative that we know that we are not to destroy the nations by war or genocide. The prime directive of Abraham was to be a blessing to all nations. The Great Commission can be fulfilled only by “the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God” (Ephesians 6:17). Neither should we give support to those who remain under the Old Covenant, those who want to duplicate Joshua’s conquest of Canaan by committing genocide against the Palestinians.
The word of God is “seed” which begets an immortal and incorruptible child of God (1 Peter 1:23-25). The seed of God begets an anointed child, “Christ in you, the hope of glory” (Colossians 1:27). This is the New Covenant solution to the corruption of Adam’s seed that was passed down to us through our biological parents.
Modern Zionism is an extension of Old Covenant mindsets. We who claim to be begotten from above through the New Covenant have no business reverting back to Old Covenant patterns.
This series was designed to explain an earlier statement that probably seemed to be particularly harsh. I stated that those who support the Gaza genocide do not know God very well, and they certainly do not understand the mind of Christ. Those who support the slaughter of Palestinians in Gaza point to Israel’s invasion of Canaan, as if there is no difference between the Old Covenant conquest and the New Covenant’s Great Commission.
The result of this gross misunderstanding is that hundreds of thousands of men, women, and children in Gaza (and also in the West Bank) have been murdered by IDF forces, using bombs made and supplied free of charge by the USA. While the Israeli Zionists are the most culpable in this crime against humanity, so are the Zionists around the world who support them financially and politically.
Christian Zionists too are complicit in this, because were it not for them, America would not have adopted this murderous policy.
I am reminded of the two-week trip that I made (as part of a team) to Washington D.C. back in 1981, where we contacted members of Congress to instruct them in the ways of the Kingdom. My partner was Ty Hardin, the actor. He was well known to the Congressmen and also to President Reagan himself. Doors opened up to us quite readily, because they recognized Ty, and then I was able to share Kingdom principles.
One day we walked into the office of Senator Ted Kennedy, who was the head of the Judicial Committee. We had a good talk with him, sharing the Scriptures regarding restitution payments instead of prison time. I recall even showing him an article from the Arizona Republic that stated: “Prisons should be sheer hell.” The article showed the conservative view that advocated horrible prison conditions, supported also by many Christian conservatives who lacked an understanding of the Scriptures.
The article showed how Christians believe that torture, as a judgment for sin, is approved by God. Their view of “hell” is the basis of their belief that prisons should be sheer hell. For a study of “hell,” see my book, The Judgments of the Divine Law.

Kennedy told us, “I would very much like to implement a program of restitution, but the Christians won’t let me.” I never forgot that. His words showed me how Christian ignorance of the mind of God had rendered our judicial system unrighteous in the sight of God.
The question is this: Will God hold the church accountable for casting out the law of God and replacing it with the traditions of men?
Remember what Jesus said in Matthew 7:22, 23 about the miracle workers: “I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness’.” The Greek word is anomia, from nomos, “law.” To be lawless is to teach that God’s law was put away.
Miracles are good, but they will not be the deciding factor “on that day.” We have unrighteous government because the church has failed in its mission to bring righteousness to the world. The Passover Church from Moses to Christ failed and was sent into exile. The Pentecost Church (between the two comings of Christ) has failed as well, due to its lawless teaching and practice. Only the Tabernacles Church will succeed during the age to come, because in this age the overcomers will be given the dominion mandate.
The world still eagerly awaits the manifestation of the sons of God (Romans 8:19), timed to coincide with the second coming of Christ that launches the Tabernacles Age. The world is not responsible to bring righteousness to itself. The world was not given the revelation of the law, nor did God send Jesus Himself to other nations. Teaching righteousness is the responsibility of the church, beginning with “the church in the wilderness” (Acts 7:38), whose failure caused the name of God to be blasphemed among the nations (Romans 2:24).
John the Baptist, carrying the Elijah mantle, called the Passover Church to repentance (Matthew 3:2). A few did indeed repent (Acts 19:3, 4), but the majority, including the church leaders (Sanhedrin), rejected his baptism and later rejected Christ Himself.
The Pentecost church received a greater anointing in Acts 2:1, but within a few centuries it too became lawless and failed in its mission. As we approach the Tabernacles Age, Christian believers are being called to repentance once again, this time by those who are part of the Elisha company. Just as John the Baptist was the “Elijah” of Christ’s first coming, so also is the “Elisha” company preparing the way for Christ’s second appearance.
In my view, my revelation, the key issue is one’s view of the law of God. This has always been the issue, because the law is the first major expression of God’s nature and His will. Those who remain ignorant of the law do not have a working “knowledge of sin” (Romans 3:20). Hence, even believers often commit sin unknowingly—because their leaders have not taught them.
In the New Testament gospels, we see how Jesus’ anger was directed specifically at the religious leaders, because great authority is always accompanied by great responsibility. Having studied the law and the prophets by the carnal mind of the old man of flesh, they remained ignorant of genuine revelation which would have opened their eyes to the truth. Even when Jesus was raised from the dead, they lied to the people and covered up the truth (Matthew 28:11-15).
Today the wrath of God is directed primarily at the church itself, which is primarily responsible to know the truth revealed in the New Covenant. Though many perform great miracles in the name of Jesus, this does not excuse them from casting aside His laws. So let us be diligent in our study, and let us be led by the Spirit to apply the law according to the mind of Christ. Let us also obtain a New Covenant view of prophecy, especially in understanding how the types and shadows are fulfilled in a greater way in our time.
