Passover conference this weekend

We will leave here tomorrow morning to go to the weekend Passover conference in Chattanooga, TN, and I do not plan to do any weblogs until we return home. Unless we made an unscheduled stop along the way, we should get home next Tuesday evening.

As you can see, we were able to make two new books available before leaving town: Ecclesiastes and Philippians-Philemon-Colossians. We will be taking some of these to the conference as well. I have too many books now to try to haul copies of all of them. My car can’t hold them all anymore. But I will be taking along the latest edition of Secrets of Time. Carrying two boxes of each means packing 6 boxes of books, along with our luggage, and that is about maximum for us.

In a few weeks we should have another book available: Building the Kingdom. It is far along now in the proofing process. This book is a 128-page expansion of the pocket-size book on the Kingdom of God, with added material. Also being proofed is the combination book: Nahum and Lamentations; another is the book on Zephaniah; another is First Peter, which I just finished formatting. I have also formatted Zechariah, but this will not be available for a few more months.

As you can see, we have been busy. My long-term goal, of course, has been to do a commentary on as many books of the Bible as I can, so that others may be able to study whatever part of the Bible they want to study in depth. I always encourage people to use these books in home churches or in group Bible studies on zoom. (I myself am not organizing any such zoom calls, because I have my hands full writing and formatting the Bible studies.)

Many people would like to organize such Bible study groups, but they do not feel like they can do so properly. These books make it easy for anyone to lead such study groups, because all they have to do is read and discuss. I have done most of the work ahead of time to provide the basic framework for discussions. As always, people are free to agree or disagree on any point of interpretation. I simply provide my thoughts on the meaning of each verse, making me part of the discussion without having to actually be there.

By the way, conferences are great times to find out who is doing zoom Bible studies and get information on how to join the group. It is also a way to form new study groups as you meet people and exchange information. In the old days, many people were all alone with little or no fellowship with like-minded friends. But today, with the newer technologies, as long as you have a computer, you can fellowship with others face-to-face online.

It’s not quite like being in the same room with friends, but it does go a long way in helping people stay in touch and filling the fellowship void. As long as we have the technology, let’s use it to our advantage.
