The Sickle of Leo

About an hour before dawn on September 20, 2009, an unusual event took place in the constellation of the lion (Leo). Venus came into conjunction with Regulus, the King's Star located between the feet of the lion. Regulus is the star referenced in Jacob's blessing upon Judah in Gen. 49:9, 10,

⁹ Judah is a lion's whelp . . . he couches, he lies down as a lion, and as a lion, who dares rouse him up? ¹⁰ The scepter shall not depart from Judah, nor the lawgiver from between his feet until Shiloh comes, and unto him shall be the gathering of the peoples."

Regulus is the star/lawgiver between the feet of Leo the Lion. The Sickle of Leo can be seen by drawing lines between some of the main stars in Leo, and the handle of the sickle ends with Regulus, "the little king."

Some may be surprised to discover that men did not name the stars. God named the stars, as Psalm 147:4 tells us:

"He [God] counts the number of the stars, He gives names to all of them."

God named them prophetically to tell the story of Christ and His Kingdom. Men later reinterpreted much of this and reapplied it to their own gods and false messiahs, but in no way does this change the meaning of biblical references to the stars. "The heavens declare the glory of God" (Ps. 19:1).

The constellations begin with Virgo, because Jesus Christ was to be born of a virgin. It ends with Leo, the Lion of the tribe of Judah (Rev. 5:5) who is destined to rule the earth.

Leo contains a sickle from his head to his front feet, and the bright star at the end of the sickle is Regulus. It is the sickle referenced in Revelation 14:14-20, speaking of the angel with the sickle who was told to reap the earth.

Because the constellation Leo is seen in the month of September, his presence comes during the grape harvest. Hence, the One with the sharp sickle is said to reap grapes with his sickle. Normally, one reaps grain with a sickle, but this is no ordinary prophecy. Grapes signify the unbelievers in the earth, even as the wheat represents the church and barley represents the overcomers.

Gideon threshed wheat in a winepress (Judg. 6:11), and Regulus uses a sickle to harvest grapes.

Regulus is the King's Star, and Jupiter is the King's Planet. These two were in conjunction on May 8, 2 B.C., when Jupiter "crowned" Regulus (with a looping motion), sending the Magi to Bethlehem with their gifts for the Messiah. They arrived on Dec. 25, 2 B.C. Jesus was already 3 months old at the time, having been born on the feast of Trumpets, Sept. 29, 2 B.C. (See my book, When REALLY Was Jesus Born?)

On Sept. 20, 2009 Venus came into conjunction with Regulus. Venus, in biblical symbolism, is the planet representing the Virgin, even as Virgo is the constellation with the same meaning. It draws our attention primarily to Regulus and the Sickle of Leo, and this may indicate that the angel is getting ready to use his sickle to harvest the grapes of the earth in 2010.

In this way God is putting the grape company on notice that they ought to repent and become wheat or barley. God uses star-language that many in the grape company understand.

A few weeks ago we were asked to hold a local gathering in a northern suburb of Minneapolis on Sunday afternoon, September 20. I sent notices out to the people in Minnesota in early September, entitled, GATHERING THE PEOPLE. I then quoted Gen. 49:10 on the flyer. Little did I know that this verse would be so applicable to that very day when Venus and Regulus were in conjunction in Leo. Venus (representing also the Bride of Christ) was gathered to the King/Lawgiver (Regulus).

This meeting and its theme, then, proved to be a revelation of things to come. For this reason, I take this as a prophetic sign that the Sickle of Leo is about to be used. I do not know how long it will take to harvest the earth in this context, but Revelation 14 is about to be fulfilled. The conjunction occurred on our meeting day, which was the 2nd day of the Hebrew Year immediately after Rosh Hoshana.

Finally, this conjunction also relates to the "riddle of the Sphinx." Recall that the Sphinx in Egypt has the head of a woman and the body of a lion. It was said that if anyone could figure out the answer to this riddle, he would receive immortality. The Sphinx is essentially the joining of Virgo and Leo in the circle of the constellations. The Sphinx represents the beginning and the end, and it also shows the joining or "gathering" of Christ and His Bride. "Unto Him shall the gathering of the people be."

It appears, then, that our "gathering" on September 20 was a sign of a greater "gathering" that God is calling today. The word is to draw near to Him while the angel uses his sickle to reap the grapes of the earth. There are two kinds of harvest--one negative and one positive. The positive harvest is resurrection, wherein God's people are brought into His "barn." The negative side, however, is where grapes are harvested with a sickle and cast into a winepress to be trodden under foot. The purpose of the winepress, of course, is to extract the wine for God's Table, but even so, this involves a lot of work and a certain level of pain for the world.

The barley is winnowed; the wheat is threshed; and the grapes are trodden under foot. In all cases, the ultimate purpose is the same--to bring the people into conformity to the divine purpose for the earth. But the manner in which they are brought in differs, depending on which company we are in. Let us be part of the company that needs only winnowing, so that the moment we feel the wind of the Spirit upon us, the chaff blows away immediately. In other words, be sensitive to the moving and leading of the Spirit, knowing that the judgment upon the world is not meant for us, but for the disobedient.
