There is one more major event that took place in 1917 which pointed to the captivity to Mystery Babylon. It was the Communist revolution that overthrew Russia. On the Eastern Orthodox calendar (the Julian Calendar) this occurred on October 26, 1917, but after adopting the West’s Gregorian Calendar, their Revolution Day was celebrated on November 7 each year.
It was a captivity that lasted precisely 70 years, precisely 2,520 years after Jerusalem’s 70-year captivity from 604-534 B.C.
What potentially could have been the end of the “seven times” captivity (tribulation) turned out to be the start of a parallel captivity in a new form. In the West, this captivity began with the Federal Reserve Act of 1913 and came in the form of debt-money. In the East, it began with the Bolshevik (Communist) Revolution in 1917. Both were marked by World War 1, which lasted from 1914-1918.
The Federal Reserve Act was signed into law in 1913 by US president Woodrow Wilson. America officially took upon itself the wooden yoke of captivity which Jeremiah had offered to Judah in Jeremiah 27:2. Banking oligarchs took control of the power to create money out of nothing and lend it to the government at interest. Interest payments became yearly tribute paid to the coffers of Mystery Babylon. The debt was perpetually unpayable, because it always required paying back more than had been created. Hence, debt could never be repaid. Debt is slavery.
God blinded the eyes of the people so that they would not refuse this yoke. God knew that if the people had known the nature of this Act, they would have revolted (as did the men of Judah). So God in His mercy, blinded the eyes of the people, and they submitted to the wooden yoke, thus avoiding the heavier iron yoke which might have involved deportation to other lands with great disruption and destruction.
This is essentially the difference between Babylon and Mystery Babylon. Babylon was no secret in the days of Jeremiah. Mystery Babylon was imposed as a secret takeover of the US government. The Greek word mysterion, translated “Mystery,” means hidden, secret, occult. So successful was this secret takeover that anyone who discovered it would be labeled a “conspiracy theorist.”
The spiritual cause of this captivity was rooted in the fact that America had not fulfilled its obligation to obey the laws of God (in spite of its religious fervor). John Winthrop’s warning became prophecy. As the manifestation of the regathered House of Israel, America was supposed to implement the Abrahamic calling to be a blessing to all families of the earth (Genesis 12:3).
Unfortunately, God took this more seriously than America itself did. America liked to think of itself as chosen, having a divine calling, but they did not want the responsibility that came with divine authority. So America—and most of the world with it—were subjected to the wooden yoke of divine judgment under a secret government, Mystery Babylon.
Russia’s captivity was described by Winston Churchill in his “Sinews of Peace” speech on March 5, 1946, where he stated:
“From Stettin in the Baltic to Trieste in the Adriatic, an iron curtain has descended across the Continent.”
Churchill was referring to the expanding domination of Eastern Europe by the Soviet Union after World War II. He did not understand the biblical principle of the iron yoke (Deuteronomy 28:48), but he saw its results clearly. The Revolution overthrowing Russia and transforming it into a new (foreign) government known as The Union of Soviet Socialist States (i.e., The Soviet Union) was apparent for all to see. The only secret about this was that the same banking oligarchs that had captured America and the West had also captured Russia. The revolutionary leaders of the Soviet Union had been financed by those same western bankers.
Hence the Russian people, along with many others in nearby countries and in eastern Europe, were placed under an iron yoke. Though they were not often exiled to foreign lands, they were all placed under a new foreign government. The Soviet leaders were just proxies, or vassal kings (as they used to be called).
On the 70th anniversary of the October Revolution in November 1987, Mikhail Gorbachev delivered a landmark speech that many historians now see as a decisive ideological turning point in the unraveling of the Soviet system.
The speech did not formally dissolve the USSR—that came in 1991—but it effectively pulled the ideological plug on the Soviet Union by undermining the myths and coercive foundations on which the system rested.
The speech was delivered on November 2, 1987 just before the official Revolution Day celebrations of November 7. Traditionally, these anniversary speeches glorified Lenin, celebrated Soviet triumph, and defended the Communist system. But Gorbachev’s address was radically different. The most shocking element was his public condemnation of Joseph Stalin (1924-1953), the man who had taken power after the death of Lenin in 1924.
Gorbachev denounced Stalin’s purges, terror, mass repression, and his “cult of personality.” He called Stalin’s crimes “enormous and unforgivable.” This was explosive because Stalin had been central to Soviet legitimacy, fear had long held the system together, and the Communist Party claimed historical infallibility
Gorbachev insisted Soviet history could no longer hide its crimes, there should be no “blank pages” in Soviet history. That phrase was revolutionary in itself. Under the new policy called glasnost (“openness”), censored history resurfaced, political prisoners were rehabilitated, and the suppressed archives began opening.
President Gorbachev’s speech legitimized questioning the system—something that had been treated as treason in the past. But once the President of the USSR and General Secretary of the Communist Party himself admitted terrible crimes, historical falsification, and systemic corruption, people began asking: “If they lied about Stalin, what else did they lie about?”
The psychological effect was immense. Glasnost became uncontrollable. The speech accelerated forces he could no longer control, and Communist legitimacy collapsed. Criticism spread like a contagion from Stalin to Lenin and finally to the Communist system itself.
Many historians view the 70th anniversary speech in 1987 as the moment when the Soviet leadership publicly abandoned the myth of its own moral perfection. The USSR declined for four more years, but its spiritual and ideological center had been hollowed out. In 1991 the Soviet Union itself was dissolved.
Thus ended the iron yoke captivity in the East. The ensuing chaos brought a decade of near helplessness as the new Russia sought help that the West had promised. But the West smelled blood in the water. The Western oligarchs recognized that they now were the sole superpower in the world, and they determined to do all they could to make sure that this would never change.
Nonetheless, Russia’s 70-year captivity ended precisely on schedule, marked by President Gorbachev’s Revolution Day speech on November 2, 1987.
In my book, Secrets of Time, I show that the year 1986-1987 was the 120th Jubilee from Adam, according to biblical chronology. In a way, we could say that Gorvachev’s anniversary speech was like a Jubilee speech that unintentionally set the Russian people free. Under biblical law, when slaves were set free, their former masters were to send them out with generous provisions. Deuteronomy 15:13-15 says,
13 When you set him free, you shall not send him away empty-handed. 14 You shall furnish him liberally from your flock and from your threshing floor and from your wine vat; you shall give to him as the Lord your God has blessed you. 15 You shall remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt, and that the Lord your God redeemed you; therefore I command you this today.
The Western banking oligarchs violated this law when Russia was set free. The Russians thought that the West just wanted them to cast off Communism and to join the “free world” as good neighbors. They were mistaken. They did not understand the perverse nature of their previous masters of Mystery Babylon. The more Russia tried to embrace Europe, the more they were rejected—and pushed eastward into the arms of China.
Western policy thus created the rise of “the kings from the east” (Revelation 16:12), which would eventually overthrow Mystery Babylon, even as Cyrus and Darius had overthrown the city of Babylon in 537 B.C. (Daniel 5:28).
Meanwhile, the western banking system is collapsing from illiquidity. Its “Euphrates” is drying up, and because they violated the law of freed slaves, they themselves will be judged in the same manner. Just as Babylon of old was taken intact and put under new management, so also will the banking system of Mystery Babylon come under new management in the Kingdom of God.
