With all the fanfare going on about a “peace deal,” we should understand that this is not an actual “deal.” It is a memorandum of understanding that sets a partial agenda for future talks that may result in a peace deal.
So far, we do not know for certain what arrangements have been agreed to. What Iran says is far different from what Trump says. Until we see a written memorandum signed by both parties, its contents are anyone’s guess. And even then, a memorandum is not legally binding. It only states promises, which hardly worth any more than the signatures.
The hardline warmongers (on both sides) still oppose peace and do not even want the two sides to start talking directly to each other. So far, the talks have been conducted in separate rooms, using Pakistani diplomats to shuttle letters between them. Even that much is anathema to those who prefer and profit by war.
“There are many sticking points, but the most visible seems to be centered on the Israeli invasion of Lebanon. Iran won’t talk of peace without including Lebanon; Netanyahu still insists that he will never leave Lebanon, as this is part of the long-term plan of Israeli expansion that has been going on for 45 years.
“There is something that does not add up. If the objective is peace, then why was one of the most contentious parts of the negotiations the demand that hostilities in Lebanon also come to an end? Reports indicate that the U.S.-Iran framework includes de-escalation in Lebanon. Yet almost immediately Israeli officials declared they would not withdraw from southern Lebanon and would continue to reserve the right to act independently. Defense Minister Israel Katz stated plainly Israel would remain in Lebanon, Syria, and Gaza regardless of the agreement.
“This is where the entire story begins to unravel. Trump has been publicly insisting that Netanyahu will have to accept whatever agreement Washington negotiates, reportedly saying: ‘I call all the shots. He doesn’t call the shots.’ At the very same time, reports emerged that Trump was furious over Israeli actions in Beirut that nearly derailed the negotiations altogether. According to multiple reports, strikes in Lebanon came dangerously close to collapsing the entire framework before it was finalized.”
Netanyahu's War Is Not Over | Armstrong Economics
So who really is calling the shots? Trump’s leverage is that he controls the economic and military support for the Zionist state. Netanyahu’s leverage is in the fact that AIPAC, the Israeli lobby, has bought most of the politicians in Washington—both Democrats and Republicans—and he is supported by Christian Zionists who seem eager to betray Jesus and trash His teachings.
From my understanding of prophetic patterns, I see a wider war on the near horizon, which will ultimately culminate in the destruction of Jerusalem and the permanent desolation of the entire nation (Jeremiah 19:10, 11). The 2001 pattern indicates that war will break out in July, or possibly as late as September. So I would not bet on any peace deal lasting for more than a few weeks. There are too many powerful warmongers in the mix.
Having said that, there is also a silver lining. Running parallel to this spirit of bloodshed is the rise of the Kingdom. Even Christian Zionists would agree with that. The difference is that they believe Christ is coming to save the Israeli state from extinction, whereas I believe Christ is leading the foreign armies against Jerusalem (Isaiah 29:1-4). His Kingdom will not have the earthly Jerusalem as its capital; the capital will be the heavenly Jerusalem. His Kingdom will not be ruled by the children of the flesh but by the children of the promise.
The real question is this: Will the children of the bondwoman inherit the Kingdom? Zionists believe so, and Christian Zionists agree with them. But I agree with Scripture that declares, “Cast out the bondwoman” (Galatians 4:30, quoting Genesis 21:10). It is up to us to decide if Scripture is correct or if Christian Zionist teaching can overrule Scripture with a better revelation.
